On April 27, 2023, the 90-day public comment period closed on the Initial Proposals for Updating the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB’s) Race and Ethnicity Statistical Standards.
Dr. Karin Orvis, the Chief Statistician of the United States, and the Federal Interagency Technical Working Group on Race and Ethnicity Standards (Working Group) would like to sincerely thank everyone who provided feedback on the initial proposals for revising Statistical Policy Directive No.15: Standards for Maintaining, Collecting, and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity (SPD 15). Dr. Orvis and the Working Group deeply appreciate the American public taking time to submit over 20,000 comments!
The Working Group will review, process, and take into consideration feedback from public engagements, comments on the FRN, and available research as final recommendations for revising OMB’s race and ethnicity statistical standards are prepared for the Chief Statistician of the United States. The Working Group will also continue to hold public listening sessions into Fall 2023.
OMB has set a goal to revise SPD 15 by Summer of 2024.
